Piper
I absolutely adore these girls. I think I might love them even more now, knowing they wanted me to be part of their family. How sweet is that? And how wonderful is it to learn that I actually AM part of their family? Being mated to Henry makes me their aunt. I hadn’t considered that bonus, or all the other family I’d inherit, because I’m mated to him.
I smile at him as the girls warn him that he’s in trouble once we’re done sparring. His eyes shift over to me, hearing my thoughts. I send a wave of happiness and appreciation through the link, letting him know how much I value being his mate.
When the girls turn back to me, I take them both on at once. Once again, I’m impressed at how strong they are for their age and how intelligent they are in their fighting techniques.
“Work together, girls. You aren’t always going to be stronger than your opponent, but you’re stronger together,” Quirin says to them.
They split up, and I struggle to keep both of them in my sights. I’ve noticed that Kendra is just a bit more aggressive than Kaylee, so I’m not surprised that she comes at me first. As she swings her fist at my leg, I grab her fist, spinning her around while also kicking my leg over Kaylee’s head as she comes in expecting me to bedistracted by Kendra.
As I’m spinning around, Kendra swings her leg out to kick me and swipe her leg out from under her. I dive, using the motion to avoid another punch from Kaylee, pushing my hand under Kendra’s head before she hits the ground.
“No, Aunt Piper!” Kendra says. Both girls stop.
“Aunt Piper, the bad guys aren’t going to protect our head when we fall. We have to learn to fall and get back up even if it hurts,” Kaylee says.
look over at Quirin, not sure he’s in agreement. “My girls don’t break easily, Piper. They spar with Wade, who gives them a tough workout. They want to spar with you so they can get tougher, stronger, faster, and smarter in how they fight.”
I stand and look at them. “Are you sure, girls?”
“Yes, Aunt Piper. Treat us like warriors, not kids!” Kendra insists.
“Yeah, we’re fighters like you and Daddy!” Kaylee agrees.
After that, I’m still careful, modifying my fighting technique to their skillset, but I’m not as careful as I was when we started. The girls respond quickly, rising to a higher level of fighting and asking questions about how I did something.
When Kennedy finally calls them to breakfast, all three of us are happy with our sparring experience.”Thanks, Aunt Piper!” Kendra says, hugging me.
“Yeah, thanks Aunt Piper,” Kaylee says, adding her hug so l get twin hug.
I stand, picking them up. “If you want to thank me, go easy on your Uncle Henry. He was keeping our relationship quiet for me, not because he didn’t want to tell you,” I say.
The girls continue to hug me as they look at Henry. He grins at them.
“Want to fight it out after breakfast?” he asks.
“Yeah!” they say, excitedly. I laugh, setting them down and sliding into Henry’s embrace as they race ahead of us.
“My girls respond really well to you, Piper,” Quirin says as we walk inside. He immediately picks up the younger twins who are toddling around, helping to get them into highchairs for breakfast.
“They’re fun and they’re tough, which makes it easy for me to work with them,” I say.
“I can see that you’ve gotten stronger since | last sparred with you, so l’d better get my chance to fight with you before you leave.”
I laugh. “No question where those girls get it from.”
The rest of the day is relaxing. I spend time with Vivienne, learning more about what she knows of our father and brother. We get a call from Hacker, letting us know thatthe meeting is scheduled at seven o’clock tomorrow. Once again, we’ll meet in Hijack’s room where the video equipment is already set up.
Saturday evening, we meet with Quirin and Kennedy to talk about going to Alpha Patrick’s pack next weekend.
“Are we expecting him to make a fuss?” Quirin asks.
“I don’t know why he would. I’m not threatening Justine. I just want the DNA test to prove paternity,” he says. “He wasn’t happy when I dropped her off after I met Piper, but she was also upset, so it could have been a protective Alpha thing.”
“Harold said it was more than that,” Quirin says.
I frown. “What happened when you dropped her off?”
“Alpha Patrick was angry that I wasn’t keeping the promises Justine told him I’d made to her. I was clear that no promises had been made and that I had apologized to Justine. He made a comment about me dumping my problems into his lap and then he said something about my mother being ashamed of me.”
