To Love a Shadow To Be the Sun novel Chapter 355

The kiss left Elara breathless and weak, and when he finally released her, she sagged against his chest, gasping for air. She instinctively wrapped her arms around his waist to steady herself.

A low chuckle rumbled from his chest. "What's this? Can't bear to let go?"

Elara, regaining her composure, gave his chest a light tap. "How can you be so reckless in a place like this?"

Zane raised an eyebrow. "You won't let me kiss you in public, and now you won't let me do anything in private. Is that how a couple is supposed to act?"

His words left her speechless.

"Have you seen Jason today?" he asked.

Elara's gaze dropped. "Not yet."

"I've found him the best neurosurgeon," Zane said. "If he can't be cured, we'll just get him a new brain."

Just then, there was a knock on the door. Elara quickly stepped out of his embrace. Zane, looking slightly annoyed, placed the container on his desk and called out, "Come in."

To Elara's surprise, it was Renata who entered.

"We've got the evidence on Ellis Vincent," she announced, her voice tinged with excitement. "The lab, supposedly for new energy battery research, is full of hazardous materials. We also have records of smuggling and proof that Neely was working for him. He's looking at life in prison, at least."

Before Elara could respond, Quincy Shelton burst into the room, his expression grave. "Bad news. We just received word. Ellis had a sudden heart attack in custody. They couldn't revive him. He's dead."

In less than a minute, Elara's emotions had been on a roller coaster. "A heart attack?" she said in disbelief. "I'd believe it if you told me he starved to death, but a heart attack? Brian never mentioned he had any heart problems."

The Cryo-Titan Energy Group, which Brian now controlled, was far more powerful than the SiliconCrest Group. But unlike SiliconCrest, Cryo-Titan was entirely his. The extended family and even Patriarch Hackett Vincent's old loyalists could no longer touch a single cent of its profits.

"Brian bought a retirement home for his grandmother to live out her golden years. I think it's part of his plan—to eliminate any distractions so he can focus all his energy on competing with Zane," Summer said, relaying the Vincent family gossip she'd heard from Charles Shaw.

"You need to be careful, Elara."

These past few days, Elara had spent her time either at the hospital visiting Jason or busy in the lab. In the evenings, she would meet Zane at her small apartment. Life was relatively calm, aside from Jason's constant nagging for her to "move back" to Lawrence Manor.

She listened to Summer quietly, her expression untroubled. "Healthy competition isn't a bad thing. Whatever his reasons for signing the strategic partnership with Ignition Dynamics, Zane is protecting us now. If he wants to cause trouble over personal matters, he'll have to think twice."

Summer looked at her and smiled. "Ignition Dynamics is like our child. I never worry that you won't protect it fiercely in a crisis. As long as you and Brian are truly over, I can rest easy." Then, as if remembering something, she added, "We've found a location for the new factory. Tomorrow, you're coming with me and Ms. Donnelly to check it out."
