Chapter 29
Amanda crossed her arms and gave him a look that was half–smile, half–challenge. “Happy now?”
Travis stared at his phone, baffled. Amanda had called him, so why hadn’t he gotten it? Why did her phone say his line was busy?
Amanda caught the confusion on his face and offered a little reminder. “You blocked me.”
The words hit him like a slap. His brows tightened as the memory came back. There was a time when Amanda’s calls just felt like too much. She’d ring him morning, noon, and night, never letting up, so he’d blocked her. Told her to go through his assistant if she needed anything. That was the only way he could get some peace.
How long ago was that? A year? Two? He honestly couldn’t remember.
Right there in front of her, he opened his phone and pulled up the blocked list. Amanda’s number was there, all by itself.
She saw it too and let out a sharp, bitter laugh. All those times she tried to reach him were pointless. If there’d been anyone else on that list, maybe she could’ve told herself it wasn’t personal. But it was just her. In its own twisted way, wasn’t that a kind of special treatment?
With a lazy shrug, she rolled her eyes at him. “So, can I finally get some sleep? Or are you done with your little show?”
Travis swallowed hard, a sour ache rising in his chest. He looked straight at her and, for the first time, tried to explain. “I forgot…”
Amanda cut him off with a wave of her hand, impatience written all over her pretty face. “Save it. That’s your mess, not mine. Right now, I just want to sleep. Okay?”
She closed the door in his face, not even looking back.
Travis stood there, staring at the closed door, suddenly feeling completely powerless. He rubbed his forehead, exhausted. Back then, he’d been buried in work, and Amanda’s constant calls had just been too much. Blocking her was easier than dealing with her. He’d told his assistant not to bother him unless it was really important. When the work storm passed, he just… forgot about it. Maybe deep down he liked the quiet. And then it just slipped his mind.
It hadn’t seemed like a big deal. If Amanda needed something, she could message him. If it was urgent, she could call his assistant.
What he didn’t expect was Chad’s attitude. Not only did Chad ignore Amanda’s requests, he’d actually humiliated her. The way Amanda had calmly dialed that second number, it was obvious this wasn’t
the first time.
Suddenly, Travis realized just how much he’d neglected her. He’d wondered why she stopped calling, but the truth was, she couldn’t reach him. And when she tried to go through his team, they’d shut her
out.
So, she turned to Shane.
All of this was on him. All of it. No wonder she was furious. She had every right.

Chapter 20
Travis pulled out his phone and called Mateo. “Are you home?”
“Yeah, just got in,” Mateo answered.
“Can you put your sister on? I need to talk to her.”
Mateo handed the phone to Cindy. “Travis wants to talk to you.”
Cindy’s lips twisted. “What does he want with me?”
*Just answer it and see,” Mateo said, already tired.
Cindy put the phone to her ear. “What?”
“You know Amanda better than anyone,” Travis said. “What does she like? I want to make it up to her.”
Cindy laughed, loud and sharp, like he’d told her a joke. “She wants freedom. She wants you to break up with her. You do that, she’ll be thrilled. That’s all she wants.”
She wasn’t wrong–she knew Amanda inside out.
Mateo tapped her head. “Stop joking around. Be serious.”
“I’m not joking,” Cindy shot back. “That’s the truth. When Amanda was actually into you, you did nothing. Now she’s over you, and suddenly you’re pulling out all the stops? Too late. What’s the point? If you want to do something for her, just give her a clean break.”
With that, she shoved the phone back to Mateo and marched upstairs, done with the conversation. She’d admit it–if Travis wasn’t her best friend’s boyfriend, if he was just Travis Hill, she might’ve admired him. But to her, he was Amanda’s boyfriend, and at that, he was a massive disappointment. As far as Cindy was concerned, he didn’t measure up.
Mateo watched Cindy disappear upstairs, then spoke into the phone. “Don’t mind her. She’s just talking.”
Travis just grunted and hung up. He glanced at Amanda’s closed door and let out a long, frustrated breath.
He called his assistant, Fiona. “Set up another engagement party. Make it bigger than the last one. Top of the line, everything.”
Fiona’s heart skipped a beat. “Sir, are you saying… another engagement party?”
