Travis stared at his phone, watching Chad’s name flash on the screen.
The irony wasn’t lost on him. His own fiancée was blocked, but the guy who’d spent weeks insulting her could still get through.
He picked up.
Chad didn’t waste a second. “Mr. Hill, I’ve been with you since graduation. Please, just give me one more chance! Don’t believe whatever Amanda told you. I swear I’m loyal to you. Please, let me make
it right!”
Travis let out a short, cold laugh. “Chad, I saw the messages you sent Amanda. So, that’s how you show her respect when I’m not around?”
Even through the phone, Travis‘ tone had enough weight to make Chad’s knees weak.
Chad felt the blood drain from his face. Amanda had actually shown Travis those messages? She’d never done that before.
“Mr. Hill, you’ve got it all wrong. Amanda called me first, and said some really nasty things, I lost my temper and texted her back. She’s putting on an act. You know she’s not as innocent as she seems. She set me up!”
Travis‘ voice was steady, almost too calm. “Chad, Amanda’s been with me this whole time. She never called you. You’re lying.”
On the other end, Chad felt panic crash over him. He opened his mouth, but nothing came out.
Travis didn’t hesitate. “You’re going to pay for what you said and for trying to drag her down.”
The line went dead. Chad just stared at his phone in disbelief until it slipped from his hand and hit the
floor.
He knew if Travis really wanted to punish him, he’d be finished. Way beyond anything he could handle.
Regret hit hard. He should’ve noticed things had shifted ever since Amanda stopped putting up with everything after the broken engagement. Travis had changed too. He’d missed the signs, and now he
was the one left out in the cold.
Desperate, Chad’s mind landed on one person–Leila. If anyone could help him out of this mess, it
was her.
Leila had really fainted from the shock of Travis‘ indifference, but she woke up quickly and fell straight into a flood of tears.
“David, Travis wants to send me overseas. I can’t go. I don’t want to go.”
David gave a heavy sigh. “He’s not trying to ship you off, Leila. He’s just focused on getting engaged to Amanda.”
He knew how obsessed Leila was with Travis–so obsessed, she’d sabotage any happy moment

between Travis and Amanda. She’d already ruined one engagement party. She was determined it wouldn’t happen a second time.
Travis understood that too. Back when Amanda would just stay quiet, Travis had let Leila get away with anything. But now, Amanda wasn’t playing nice anymore, and Travis was starting to finally take
her side.
Leila clung to David’s sleeve, her eyes wide and watery. “David, please help me. Do it for my brother, okay?”
David hesitated. This time, it was obvious Travis was on Amanda’s side. He wanted to tell Leila to just let it go.
But then she’d brought up her brother…
“Fine. I’ll help you.”
Leila’s whole face lit up. “Thank you, David. Really.”
Right then, Chad’s name popped up on her phone. Leila glanced at it, then looked at David. “I need to take this call.”
David nodded and stood. “Make sure you get plenty of rest.” He stepped out of the room.
As soon as the door closed, Leila answered. “Chad?”
“Ms. Price, please–Mr. Hill is threatening to sue me. You have to do something!”
Leila’s expression tightened. “That can’t be right. Travis isn’t the type.”
Chad was practically begging. “He is this time, I swear. He’s serious.”
“What did you do, Chad?”
“I… I sent Amanda some nasty texts, and Mr. Hill saw them.”
Leila cursed Chad’s stupidity in her head. He’d actually left proof.
