To Amanda, she and Travis were done. Over. Whatever Travis was going through now was just withdrawal, nothing more. Their relationship had always been heading for this ending.
She’d loved Travis for seven years. But that didn’t mean she had to love him forever.
All those years, she’d put up with being overlooked and taken for granted. Was it really too much to want a relationship where she was cherished, cared for, and loved? Travis didn’t love her. But that didn’t mean she wasn’t worthy of love.
At least now, she wasn’t going to let his attitude drain her energy anymore. She was ready to love again. She deserved to be loved.
And if her next chance at love was with Shane… Amanda actually felt confident.
They arrived at the restaurant.
“Have you been here before, Shane?” Amanda asked with a bright smile.
He shook his head. “Not really. I’m into eating healthy and usually cook for myself. I almost never
have steak when I eat out.”
Shane was disciplined in every way–his studies, his daily routine, even his relationships.
Amanda grinned. “Steak doesn’t make you gain weight, and it’s not exactly unhealthy. Plus, this place is amazing. You have to give it a try.”
Shane nodded, his expression soft. “If you’re recommending it, I definitely have to try it. And if I get hooked, I’ll need you to be my dinner buddy from now on. You can’t say no.”
Was he flirting with her? Amanda’s ears went red. She ducked her head, a little flustered. “If you like it, invite me next time, too.”
Shane smiled, warm and gentle, like a spring breeze. “Deal.”
They walked into the restaurant and Amanda led the way to her usual spot. Shane handed her the menu, polite and smooth as ever. “You’re the regular here. Why don’t you order for me?”
“Sure. The filet mignon here is the real deal, super tender and flavorful. I’ll order that for you.”
“Sounds good.”
There was no denying it. Shane was considerate and well–mannered. He always responded, always met her eyes with warmth and kindness. She could actually feel the affection in his gaze.
He’s not like Travis. Travis‘ eyes had always been cold, distant, like nothing ever touched him. He’d never understand how much that indifference had hurt her.
Amanda caught herself. Was she really comparing Shane and Travis? What was wrong with her? There was no point. They were nothing alike.
Shane was wonderful.
Travis… well, he was rarely wonderful.
