Wake Up Leave The Liar novel Chapter 106

Chapter 84

Ashley, still mentally replaying Chase’s conversation with Burke, blinked before responding.

“No.”‘

“Got it.” Chase nodded, looking cold. He rose with a practiced grace. “I’ll pick up Sam later.” It was a thinly veiled goodbye.

Ashley responded with icy politeness, “Okay.”

Chase didn’t linger. He walked over to Amanda.”Grandma, I have something to attend to. I’ll be going now.”

Amanda didn’t bother to rise, her voice as cold as the January air.”Goodbye.”

Undeterred by her attitude, Chase nodded curtly to Steve before leaving.

Chase emerged from the restaurant, his departure noted by Zark, who had just gotten out of his car. Chase quickly got into his car and drove away. Zark remained seated, watching him go.

Burke and Tim left after the event concluded.

With most guests gone, Ashley went upstairs to find Sam.

Sam removed his headphones as Ashley entered.”Mommy, are you finished?”

“Mm-hmm.” Remembering Chase’s words, she said, “Your father said he’d pick you up tonight. Call him and ask when he’ll be here.”

The thought of going home and playing with Aunt Tanya the next day brightened Sam’s face.

“Okay!”

The call was answered quickly. Moments later, he hung up.

Daddy says he’ll be here in fifteen minutes.”

“Alright, I know,” Ashley replied. “Pack your things; I’ll take you downstairs to wait for your dad.”

Sam wanted to ask Ashley for help packing, as Ashley usually did it for her.

But seeing Ashley’s long face, she swallowed the request.

When the time came, Ashley took Sam downstairs. In the elevator, watching his silent mother, Sam took her hand and swayed it gently.”Mommy.”

Ashley looked down.”Yes, sweetie?”

“Mommy, you haven’t been talking much lately.” Sam observed that his mother didn’t call him daily like before, and didn’t constantly ask about his whereabouts. He did love the changes. However, aside from those changes, when they did see each other, his mom seemed less talkative. It was like his mom had become quieter,

Ashley knew Sam so well that she knew how smart Sam could be. However, it had taken him this long to notice the changes. The only reason was that he’d unconsciously avoided facing it.

Ashley looked away. I’m tired.”

‘Oh…”

Seeing Ashley’s weary face, Sam didn’t push it.

The night wind was bitterly cold. As they stepped out of the restaurant, the wind stung their faces.

Sam felt so cold that he stopped, clinging to Ashley and burying his face in her stomach.

“It’s so cold, Mommy, Hold me.”

Sam, almost six, was getting heavy. It was a struggle for Ashley, but she bent and scooped him up.

Sam hugged her, his face nestled her warm neck, escaping the biting wind. The softness of Ashley’s clothes was comforting. Sam rubbed his cheek against Ashley’s neck, enjoying the warmth.

Chase was always punctual. As Ashley reached the parking lot, his car pulled in. Seeing them, he stopped at her feet.

Sam, still in Ashley’s arms, called out to his father. “Daddy, carry me inside.”

Without a word, Chase got out and took Sam.

The little boy giggled, kicking his legs happily.

As he leaned closer, Ashley caught a whiff of Tanya’s perfume on him-a scent absent when he was with her earlier.

This meant he had visited Tanya after leaving them.

Chase looked at Ashley. “It’s cold out. You may go back.”

Ashley stepped back.”Okay.”

Sam cheerfully waved goodbye. “Bye, Mommy!”

Mm-hmm,’ Ashley replied.

Chase carried Sam to the car. Ashley didn’t wait for them to leave before turning towards her own car.

Chase watched her go, then said to his driver.”Go.”

His car quickly merged into traffic.
