Chapter 100

After Sam left, Ashley went to a second-floor window seat to read. Half an hour later, Emily brought her herbal medicine.”Ashley, you’re here.”

Ashley stood, taking the bowl. Grandma, why did you bring it up? Just call me downstairs.”

“You’re weak. You need more rest.” Emily sat on another sofa, displeased.

7 wanted Chase to bring it for you, but he’s been typing in the study.”

Ashley suspected Chase was teaching Tanya about a project-perhaps he found a computer more efficient than his phone. She silently drank her medicine.

The weather had cooled, so the medicine wasn’t too hot. Emily frowned. That’s bitter. Slower, Ashley.”

Ashley set down the bowl.”It’s fine. Not that bitter.” Emily offered her a candy, but she declined.

Dinner was almost ready, but Ashley was already full. Emily went downstairs.

Half an hour later, Emily and Sam returned upstairs, looking unhappy.

Emily said coldly, “It’s late, and Chase still came to the company! Workaholic!”

Ashley hadn’t noticed a car leaving. Chase must have gone to Tanya’s office to help her.

Sam pouted, leaning against Ashley.”Daddy didn’t bring me.”

Of course Chase wouldn’t. Bringing Sam with him meant revealing his marriage and son to all of Speed, which would definitely embarrassing Tanya. He wouldn’t allow it.

Ashley gently pushed Sam away.”I’m still sick. Sit elsewhere.”

Sam mumbled, “Okay.”

Ashley, still unwell, went to bed at 10 PM.

When she woke up, she found Chase hadn’t returned. The medicine worked wonders; she felt much better. Emily had the doctor check on her again; he prescribed medicine to improve her blood circulation.

Ashley wanted to go to work, but Emily insisted on her staying to take the medicine, which she couldn’t deal with herself. Ashley reluctantly agreed.

Sam wanted a ride to school, but Ashley said, “My car is not here; perhaps next time.”

Sam said, “Use Daddy’s car! I’ll call him; he’ll agree.”

Before Ashley could stop him, Sam called Chase. It was connected quickly. Sam almost blurted out a name but stopped.”Never mind,” he said, hanging

Sam thought he’d hidden it well, but Ashley saw the slip-it was Aunt Tanya. So, Tanya answered the phone for Chase.

Sam, uncomfortable after lying, said, “Mommy, you can take me to school next time.”

‘Okay.”

Ashley and Jake were going the same way. Jake had missed his morning class and was reviewing. Ashley corrected him a few words.

He gave her a thumbs-up.”Your memory is amazing!”

They arrived at Jake’s school-it was also Ashley’s high school. Familiar sights sparked memories, but Jake’s departure interrupted her thoughts. “Ashley, bye!”

“Bye.”

Back at Eternal, Tim pinched her cheek.”Why do you look so awful? Sick?”

“High fever yesterday.”

“And you still came to work?”
