Chapter 101
An hour later, George brought them coffee. Tim took a sip.”Nice coffee! Better than before. Looks like the welfare is getting better.” George, shifting to gossip mode, said, “We should really thank Miss Mond for that.”
Tim rolled his eyes. Everything was related to Tanya. He set down his cup, glancing at Ashley.
I’m thirsty, she said, drinking her coffee.
Tim sighed. George continued, “Mr. Sterling gave Miss Mond a project.”
“Mm-hmm.”
She’s probably leading a big project for the first time. Worried about messing up, her team’s been working overtime. They worked until 10 PM yesterday.”
Tim said flatly, “Oh.”
“She’s really dedicated. Although she’s Mr. Sterling’s girlfriend, she works even harder than us.”
Tim scoffed. “Isn’t it because she’s incompetent that she needs so many people working overtime?”
George understood what he meant. “People need to grow.”
Perhaps.” Tim looked at Ashley.”Ashley handled a large project flawlessly.”
George, having met Ashley several times, knew she was even more skilled than Tim. He said, “At least Miss Mond has a great attitude. With that and Mr. Sterling’s investment, she’ll achieve great things.”
George sighed. “Let’s be honest, Miss Mond is incredibly lucky.” Without pausing for a response, he whispered, “Miss Mond’s team worked overtime last weekend, and the project wasn’t progressing. Mr. Sterling felt sorry for her and came to the office last night to help, and it finally started moving
forward.”
“And here’s the highlight,” he said, leaning closer to Tim.”Mr. Sterling and Miss Mond stayed in the office upstairs last night. They haven’t even gotten up yet. He winked.
Tim understood immediately. He covered Ashley’s ears. “My ears are polluted!”
Ashley was speechless. She’d already heard. Besides, Sam’s morning call with Tanya had made it clear.
Just as Tim was about to speak, Tanya arrived. He uncovered Ashley’s ears, scoffing. “They’re up now, I see.”
George coughed. Tanya looked rested but clearly tired from days of overtime, and the previous night. He coughed again. It was perfectly reasonable.
After greeting Tim, Tanya went to a meeting. With a brief rest, Ashley and Tim resumed work,
Around lunchtime, as Ashley and Tim were deciding where to eat, Chase entered. He glanced at Ashley and then went into a meeting with Tanya. The team members stood to greet him. Tanya, however, remained seated. She smiled. “You’re here?”
“Mm-hmm. He asked, “How’s it going?”
Things are clearer now; we’re making progress.”
