Chapter 103
Holding her shoulder, Ashley shook her head. I’m fine.” She saw Chase emerge, carrying Tanya, who had fainted.
George asked, “What happened to Miss Mond?”
One employee said, “She fainted. Probably overworked.”
Remembering that Chase almost knocked Ashley down, Tim clenched his jaw. “Good. Serves her right.”
George tried to soothe him, but Tim glared. “Shut up!”
George shut up.
Ashley, unconcerned, smiled.”Don’t worry. It doesn’t hurt much anymore.”
Tim pursed his lips.”Why don’t you go home and rest?”
Ashley shook her head, patting his shoulder.”Not that fragile. Let’s work.”
“Mm-hmm.” He couldn’t help but ask, “Your divorce… still not finalized?”
“I wonder the same thing,” she replied. That’s what she wanted to discuss with Chase last night.
He said, “Get it over with.”
“I know.”
At lunch, Tanya’s man said she was fine and had been taken home.
Ashley hadn’t finished her medicine.
After leaving Speed that evening, she returned to Emily’s, but Chase didn’t come back. She called him, but he didn’t answer.
They still had work to finish at Speed, but Eternal needed her too. The next morning, after taking care of things at Eternal, they returned to Speed in
the afternoon. There was little left to do.
Tim said happily, “No more Speed for me. I can’t take the injustice.”
“Okay,” Ashley laughed.
Tanya was working but looked busy. They focused on finishing their work. Around 5 PM, they completed their tasks.
They encountered Chase and Tanya as they reached the lobby.
Chase approached.”I heard the system issues were resolved. Thank you, Mr. Reed.”
Tim replied coolly, “My pleasure, Mr. Sterling,”
Chase continued, “I’m very satisfied with your work. I hope we can collaborate again.”
That’s very kind of you, Tim replied, though he and Ashley had already blacklisted Speed.
As they reached the parking lot, someone rushed towards Chase with a knife. Ashley and Tim, focused on leaving, didn’t notice that.
The next second, Ashley saw it and gasped, “Watch-”
Tanya was closer to Chase. She pushed him away and the knife pierced her chest. The attacker was subdued. Chase, his face ashen, picked up Tanya and sped off.
Tim pulled Ashley.”Let’s go.”
“Okay…”
Chase didn’t return to Emily’s that night or the next two days. Sam snuck out after knowing Tanya’s injury. Only one dose of medicine remained.
