Chapter 104

Ashley took the document a divorce agreement.
The first clause stated he wanted custody of Sam. The rest detailed the assets he was giving her, spanning several pages.
She’d come to inquire about the divorce proceedings. Glancing at the agreement, she placed it back on the table. I have no objections.”
She reached for her pen to sign.
Ethan was a bit shocked. He didn’t care about Ashley, but he knew how much she loved Chase. He had expected her to be devastated and resist the
divorce.
Instead, she readily agreed, even to giving up custody of Sam.
Ethan looked incredulously at Chase, who was also surprised. He stared intently at Ashley.
Just as Ashley was about to sign, she hesitated, retracting the pen. Ethan scoffed. He knew it!
“I need to have my lawyer review this tomorrow. I’ll sign and have my lawyer contact you within two days,” she said.
The agreement listed many assets, including a portion of his company’s shares. Her previous agreement had requested nothing. Now that he was offering something, she wouldn’t refuse. They’d been married for years; he hadn’t loved her, but he hadn’t set any traps for her either. She’d initially wanted to sign immediately, but then she hesitated. She feared loopholes. If anything happened to his company, she could become a scapegoat. He might not have intended harm, but she couldn’t guarantee Tanya wouldn’t set her up after marrying him.
He seemed surprised by her caution.”Okay,” he said.
She put the agreement back in her bag, saying nothing more before leaving. Ethan, still disbelieving, looked at Chase. “Is she alright?”
Chase, his gaze lingering on Ashley’s back, replied quietly, “I don’t know.”
‘And she didn’t ask for custody of Sam? That’s strange.”
Chase paused.”Mm-hmm.”
“She doesn’t want custody? Impossible! Sam is her world!” Ethan suddenly asked, “Did you guys discuss custody beforehand?”
Chase’s eyes darkened. “No, we didn’t.”
“What the hell?!” Ethan was baffled.
Just then, Emily arrived.”Dinner’s ready. Ashley’s downstairs. Why are you two still here? Come eat.”
Ethan snapped out of it.”Okay, coming!”
Chase also stood. Downstairs, Sam was happily chatting with Ashley, a picture of mother-son bonding. But Ethan found it unsettling, considering Ashley readily gave up custody.
Emily, unaware of the divorce, called them to dinner. They responded simultaneously. Sam held Ashley’s hand, walking happily to the dining room.
Ethan sat next to Chase. Ashley and Sam sat together. Emily said, “Ethan, it’s been a while. I had them make your favorite dishes.”
Ethan laughed. “Then I’ll take all the meat!”
