Wake Up Leave The Liar novel Chapter 161

Chapter 139

Matt didn’t show favoritism. After chatting with Chase’s group, he approached Tim and Ashley. “There are more guests than expected. I’m afraid I haven’t been a very good host.”

Tim didn’t mind. “We weren’t invited, Mr. Adler. You’re very kind.”

Robert Lawrence, a friend of Vincent, didn’t understand painting, but had come to show support. Vincent was unable to attend to him personally, so he asked Matt to bring out a chessboard and get someone to keep Robert company.

Matt excused himself and left. Vincent, picking up a handful of chess pieces, looked at his friend.

Robert grumbled, “I always lose to you. Get me someone else.”

Robert looked at Matt.”Matt is probably busy.”

“Yes, Vincent replied, considering the many guests to attend to. David also had matters to attend to; sitting down for a game would be inappropriate.

“How about another young man?” Robert suggested.

Robert knew Chase, who was renowned for his intelligence. He looked towards Chase.”Mr. Sterling, you play chess, right? Would you mind playing it with me?”

Chase put down his cup.”It’s my honor.”

He sat opposite Robert.”Please, Mr. Lawrence.”

Tanya, Zark, and others gathered to watch. Ashley and Tim joined them, standing behind Robert. Tanya and Zark played chess, too. Noticing Ashley’s focused expression, Zark approached.

You play chess?”

“A little,” Ashley replied.

Tim remained silent, knowing she played exceptionally well. Perhaps she didn’t want Zark to know her too well.

Initially, Robert and Chase’s moves were cautious. But as they understood each other’s styles-Robert was aggressive, Chase was defensive and opportunistic-Chase appeared to be struggling.

In fact, Chase was setting traps.

Ashley watched intently. Tim, also a chess player, asked her,”Who do you think will win?”

“Hard to say, Ashley replied.

Hearing that, Tanya and Ethan thought Ashley didn’t know anything about chess. Tim, however, sensed a deeper meaning. She was unsure because Chase appeared to be at a disadvantage, yet he consistently found ways to turn the tables. Or perhaps he was manipulating Robert.

It was a close game. Her hesitation wasn’t due to uncertainty about the outcome, but rather about Chase’s intentions. She wasn’t sure if Chase wanted

to win or not…

Just then, Robert chuckled. “Mr. Sterling, I may not be a grandmaster, but you’re making it too easy for me. It’s irritating.”

Chase smiled. “Haven’t played in a while. I’m rusty.”
