Chapter 197
Over the next few days, Ashley attended a couple more sessions. She encountered Tanya twice, but Chase wasn’t with her either time.
March brought more frequent rain. After a session, rain started pouring down. Ashley had an umbrella in her car but she was some distance from her car. She headed towards the entrance, planning to leave once the rain subsided.
Before she reached the entrance, she saw Tanya chatting with someone. Tanya’s smile faded upon seeing her. Then, Chase appeared, holding an umbrella. He was clearly there to pick up Tanya. He took off his overcoat and draped it over her shoulders.
Those waiting for the rain to stop watched them enviously, some audibly gasping. Only then did Chase see Ashley, and he seemed a bit surprised. Ashley remained expressionless. He looked away, opened his umbrella, and left with Tanya. The wind was strong, so he placed his coat over Tanya. Even if rain seeped under the umbrella, she’d remain dry. He was incredibly thoughtful.
Soon, they disappeared. A few moments later, Chase’s driver approached Ashley from the parking lot with an umbrella in his hand. Mrs. Sterling, Mr. Sterling asked me to bring you this.”
Ashley didn’t take it.”No, thank you.”
She knew Chase was doing this for Emily, because she had asked him to get along with her for Sam’s sake.
The point was that Chase had his driver bring Ashley the umbrella when Tanya was around. Tanya must be really confident in her relationship with Chase, or she would have stopped him from doing that. She knew that Chase didn’t love Ashley at all.
The driver hesitated.”But…”
Ashley said, “He won’t mind. Just go.”
Hearing that, the driver left with the umbrella. He didn’t return. However, the rain continued. Ashley checked the time, weighing whether to keep
waiting or…
Then, a familiar voice rang out.
*Come on. I’ll give you a ride.” It was Zark.
It was almost dark; staying any longer would be pointless. Ashley didn’t refuse.”Thank you.”
Zark took off his jacket, seemingly about to offer it to her, but Ashley stopped him. “I’m good. I have a coat in my car. If my jacket gets wet, I can change.”
Zark didn’t insist. But as they left, he positioned himself to shield her from the wind.
