Wake Up Leave The Liar novel Chapter 26

Chapter 3

Around nine o’clock that evening, Chase and Sam returned.

Sam clutched the hem of Chase’s jacket as she slowly climbed out of the car.

Maria had told him that Ashley was discharged from the hospital, and honestly, he didn’t want to come home.

But Aunt Tanya had said that since his mother was also in the accident, and they hadn’t visited her for so long, his mother must be very sad.

Dad also said that if they didn’t come home tonight, Mom would surely follow them to see Aunt Tanya tomorrow. So he agreed to return.

But he was still worried. “Daddy, what if Mommy wants to go with us tomorrow?” he mumbled.

“She won’t,” Chase said confidently.

During their marriage, Ashley had always tried to spend time with him.

But she was also sensible. As long as he made his stance clear, she wouldn’t dare displease him.

In Sam’s memory, Mom always obeyed Dad. If Dad said she wouldn’t, then she wouldn’t.

Sam’s anxieties dissolved.

His mood brightened as he skipped into the house, telling Maria he was going to take a bath.

“Okay, sweetie,” Maria replied. Remembering Ashley’s instructions, she handed Chase an envelope.

“Sir, this is from Mrs. Sterling.”

Chase took it, casually asking, “Where is she?”

Well… Mrs. Sterling packed and left this afternoon. Didn’t she tell you, Sir?”

Chase paused on the stairs, turning back.”She left?”

Yes.”

Chase didn’t give it much thought.

After all, Tanya had asked the nurses and been told Ashley had recovered well without any major issues.

Sam, however, was surprised.

A small wave of disappointment washed over him. He had been thinking that if his mother didn’t insist on tagging along to see Aunt Tanya tomorrow, having her with him tonight might be rather nice.

Several months had passed since Chase and Ashley last saw each other.

Ashley had gone to great lengths to make this trip, yet hadn’t even caught a glimpse of Chase.

Recalling Ashley’s expression when she left, which seemed off, Maria couldn’t help but offer a reminder, “Sir, Mrs. Sterling didn’t look right when she left. She seemed… upset.”

Maria had initially assumed Ashley had an urgent matter to attend to.

Now, discovering that Chase hadn’t even known Ashley was leaving, she realized something was wrong.

Chase frowned.

Upset?

Ashley was always so patient and understanding.

She would actually get upset? That was something new.
