Chapter 359

Mary and Miranda hadn’t expected that Zark, who always seemed so polite to them, would reject Catherine so bluntly right in front of them.
Mary, of course, still hoped that things would work out between Catherine and Zark.
She managed a smile, trying to ease the tension and smooth things over. “This really is Catherine’s fault. We’ll talk to her about it later. I’m so sorry for interrupting your discussion Another time, I’ll have Tanya bring Catherine over to apologize properly…”
“No need for an apology. Zark said, seeing through her intention. When it comes to feelings…”
He paused there, subtly glancing at Ashley. After a half-second beat, he continued, “You can’t force these things. Ms. Holden and I just aren’t a good fir. I hope you can talk to her and persuade her not to let me hold her back from finding someone who truly suits her.”
At that point, what more was there for Mary to understand?
She looked at Ashley, who had stayed out of it from the start, calmly sipping her coffee. It dawned on her that Ashley was essentially just watching the Holden family make a spectacle of themselves.
Her smile was a bit strained. She gave a dry chuckle and, “You’re right. I’ll definitely talk to Catherine about it.”
“I appreciate that.”
Catherine had long since fled, unable to bear the embarrassment. Zark watched Mary and Miranda close the door and reseat themselves before he finally turned to Ashley. “My apologies, I’ve wasted your time.”
Ever since he’d realized Catherine’s intentions, his rejections had been clear as day.
But Catherine simply refused to take a hint.
He’d even tried to find an opportunity to talk to her and make things clear, but before he could say anything, Catherine would play dumb and bolt.
Today was finally his chance to meet Ashley alone. He hadn’t wanted to waste time dealing with Catherine’s nonsense.
Catherine’s lack of restraint and constant feigned ignorance had finally pushed him past his breaking point.
Since Tanya had snatched Chase away, he knew the relationship between the Mond and Holden families and Ashley was a bit… delicate.
Speed’s termination of its contract with Eternal only exacerbated the existing tensions between Ashley and both the Mond and Holden families.
Catherine also seemed to have it out for Ashley from the get-go.
Under these circumstances, directly confronting Catherine in front of Ashley was the only way to make her back off.
With all that in mind, he decided to just lay his cards on the table.
Ashley smiled. “It’s fine,” she said.
Zark hesitated, then finally spoke.”Sorry, earlier I…”
Before he could even finish, Ashley already knew he was apologizing for telling Mary earlier, “You can’t force feelings.
She gave a small smile ‘It’s fine,” she said. “Besides, what you said was the truth, after all”
She’d learned that firsthand, so she knew with absolute certainty that feelings genuinely couldn’t be forced.
She’d also come to terms with it now.
Zark must have sensed this as well, which was why he’d finished his sentence.
