Wake Up Leave The Liar novel Chapter 388

Chapter366.

Ashley was always saying she was busy, that she didn’t have time.

Even if she was slammed, even if she had zero time, there’s always time to make a quick call, right?

But when Sam called her, Ashley barely ever called back. And as for Ashley calling him first? Forget about it.

It felt like everything else was more important than Sam.

The more Sam thought about it, the more choked up he got, and tears just kept streaming down.

Seeing Sam so upset, Ashley hadn’t even said a word when Chase jumped in, wiping Sam’s tears. “Your mom’s job is really slammed right now,” he said. “Next year, though, after next year, her work probably won’t be so crazy anymore.”

Sam was just a little kid, after all. With Chase soothing him like that, his hurt and upset immediately eased a ton. He wiped his tears with the back of his hand, looking up at Ashley, full of hope.”Really?” he asked.”After next year, Mom will actually have more time?”

Sam was still the son she’d carried for nine months. Even after giving up custody, Ashley still wanted him to have a good life.

Seeing the hopeful sparkle in Sam’s eyes, Ashley just couldn’t bring herself to do it. She couldn’t crush that hope, not right then, not there.

But Chase saying she’d be less busy next year? Ashley couldn’t just casually promise that.

“Mommy’s big projects, yeah, they’ll mostly be done by the end of this year, for sure. But next year, I might still have other things that come up. So, I can’t promise I’ll definitely have time then…”

What Ashley said wasn’t quite what Sam wanted to hear. But he’d seen the softness on Ashley’s face just now, and he knew Ashley still totally felt for

him.

Once that clicked, he didn’t really care about the rest.

His mood instantly lifted.

He slid down from Chase’s lap, ran over, and hugged Ashley.”Okay, I guess that’s fine then,” he said. “But Mom, when you do have time, you pick up my calls, okay?”

Ashley hesitated at her words, then looked at Chase.

Chase was already looking at her.

He just watched her, his expression giving nothing away.

It was like, whatever she wanted to do, or how she wanted to do it, was totally up to her. He wouldn’t interfere.

Ashley looked away. After a couple more seconds, she finally said, “I’ll do my best, sweetie.”

Sam’s mood swung in fast and faded just as quick. Once it passed, he was quick to soften.”Okay!” he said.

Just then, a server knocked and brought their food in.

The three of them sat back down.

Sam even adjusted his seat, pulling his chair closer to Ashley. In a great mood, he ate while telling Ashley about some hilarious stuff that happened during his last training scrimmage.

Halfway through, he pulled his tablet out of his little bag to show Ashley the pictures.

While Ashley and Sam chatted, Chase, seeing how much Sam loved to share, didn’t interrupt. He quietly served him food and picked out fish bones for

him.
