Chapter 375.
Ashley left the County Superior Court and got back to the office, even making it in time for the morning meeting.
Once she sat down, Tim whispered, ‘Got the paperwork done? That fast?”
Ashley nodded.
They had no disputes, and both were pretty positive about the divorce, so naturally, the process was quick.
Tim went on, “If it weren’t for that waiting period, you guys would’ve been officially divorced today, but now you still have to wait another 30 days. Once this waiting period is over, you really should go get the final papers done right away, don’t drag it out anymore. Otherwise, like last time, you ended up going to the base again, missed the final decision period, and had to start all over again. Such a hassle.”
“I know.”
After the last waiting period ended, she and Chase had actually agreed to go get their divorce decree the very next day. But then they both got busy with their own stuff, and in the end, they even missed the final decision period.
Wednesday marked Charles Jones, Ashley’s grandpa’s death anniversary.
Charles passed away in Belfort, but he was buried back in Zentopia.
Tuesday noon, Ashley and Amanda headed to the airport, getting ready to fly back to Zentopia for the memorial.
Sam came along too.
Ashley hadn’t originally booked a ticket for Sam, but Sam was staying at the Jones’ place now, and since he wanted to go, Ashley brought him.
After the Jones family left Zentopia years ago, they rarely went back. After Charles passed, they only returned for his death anniversary.
They’d lived in that old family home for nearly two decades before leaving Zentopia. And it had been almost twenty years since they left Belfort.
Nearly forty years later, even with regular cleaning, the old house was still rundown and not fit for living anymore.
So, for years, whenever Ashley and the family went back to Zentopia, they always crashed at a hotel.
Ashley and Steve both had work to get back to, so they had to jet back to Belfort by Wednesday night.
As for everyone else…
Zentopia was a city full of heartbreak for Amanda; she wasn’t planning on sticking around long either.
Henry and his sister, born and raised in Belfort, didn’t really have any deep connection to Zentopia.
So, none of them planned to stay long in Zentopia.
Even though Zentopia didn’t really hold much for the Jones family anymore,
they always swung by the old place when they were in town, even if it was just for a quick look. It was all they could really do.
That night, after dinner, Ashley, Amanda, and the others headed back to the old house.
They were already used to how rundown the old place was, but seeing it in its current dilapidated state, both Ashley and Steve still felt a pang of
sadness.
They had considered tearing it down and rebuilding before, but the old house still held so many important memories for Amanda and Steve.
