Wake Up Leave The Liar novel Chapter 398

Chapter 376.

The next morning, Ashley, Amanda, and the rest of the family headed to the cemetery.

On the tombstone, in the photo, Charles’s hair was stark white.

The Joneses all looked quite young.

When Lucy divorced back then, Charles was only in his fifties, with hardly any gray hairs yet.

Ashley clearly remembered that after Lucy’s accident, Charles’s hair had turned completely white in less than a year.

He died from an illness.

It wasn’t until last year that she found out the reason Charles got sick was partly due to years of bottled-up emotional turmoil.

If Charles hadn’t gotten sick, he might still be alive and well today.

Remembering how, before he passed, Charles’s heart was still consumed by his beloved Lucy; and how, even after all these years, Lucy still hadn’t gotten better or started a new life as he’d wished, Amanda’s eyes welled up first. Steve helped her crouch down, and she gently stroked the photo on the tombstone. Oh, Charles, my dear…

Grandma Jones probably wanted to say that their precious daughter still hadn’t gotten better, and she felt like she’d failed him.

But a thousand words got stuck in her throat, and nothing came out. She just stroked the photo, silently weeping.

Ashley’s eyes welled up. She let go of Sam’s hand and turned her face away.

Sam, sensing the sad mood, looked up at Ashley, his eyes full of innocent confusion. Mommy

Ashley shook her head, not speaking.

More than an hour later, Ashley and the others finally left the cemetery.

The Jones family also had a few relatives and friends in the area they were still close with.

Almost every year when Ashley came back, she’d visit these relatives and friends with Grandma Jones.

This year, when they arrived at Mrs. Miller’s house, Mrs. Miller, who was about Grandma Jones’s age, paused when she saw Sam. Is this Ashley’s kid… Sam, right Haven’t seen him in two or three years, he’s gotten so big!

Ashley nodded and prompted Sam to greet her.

Mrs. Miller paused, then couldn’t resist asking, Didn’t Sam’s dad come along this time

Last year, Sam hadn’t come along, and Ashley and Amanda had both explained that Chase had taken him overseas for work.

Now that the kid was back, his father….

In all their years of marriage, Chase had only come back to this town with her once to visit her grandfather’s grave.

That was a couple of years back, when things between her and Chase had just started to thaw.

Sam was still right there, and since he didn’t know about her and Chase’s impending divorce, Ashley simply said, He’s got a lot on his plate.

When Mrs. Miller saw the subtle shift in Ashley’s expression as she mentioned Chase, she didn’t press further. Instead, she quickly changed the subject.

A little while later, after they d chatted for a bit, Mrs. Miller seemed to remember something and quietly leaned in. So, I heard the Mond family and the Holden family moved to Belfort and are doing really well. And that younger granddaughter from the Monds, the one with the super-rich boyfriend Word is they re getting serious, really serious. I even heard the Monds and the Holdens were back in Zentopia a few days ago, and they were telling people they re getting married soon.

Normally, if someone brought up the Holdens or the Monds, Ashley or Amanda wouldn t even bat an eye.
