After returning from Jorvik, Ashley had two days off.

She rested for a day, then the next morning, right after breakfast, her phone rang.

It was Chase calling.

Ashley glanced at the screen, then picked up.”What’s up?”

“Grandma Emily got discharged from the hospital a couple days ago. She wants to invite you over to the old house for dinner.”

Ashley knew Emily was out of the hospital.

She’d just been on a business trip in Jorvik then, so she couldn’t personally go pick her up.

“Got it, Ashley said.

She was about to hang up when Chase cut in,”I’m coming to pick you up now.”

“No need, I’ll just drive myself ”

Chase said, “Sam wanted me to come with him to the Jones’ to get you. He’s already got his shoes on.”

Ashley paused.”…Okay.”

“We’ll be there in a bit.”

Ashley didn’t say anything, and Chase hung up.

About thirty minutes later, Chase and Sam pulled up to the Jones’ house.

The rest of the Jones family wasn’t home. Sam saw Ashley and excitedly jumped out of the car, running over to hug her.”Mommy!”

Chase rolled down the driver’s side window, watching them.

Once they were in the car, Sam chattered on, telling Ashley all about his fun adventures over the past few days. He even mentioned he’d already brought her gift to the old house.

While Ashley and Sam chatted, Chase just drove. Once Sam finished his stories, Chase glanced back at Ashley.”You off for the next couple of days?”

Ashley: “Yep.”

They didn’t have much to say. After Chase’s question, he didn’t initiate any more conversation with Ashley for the rest of the drive.

Emily absolutely adored Ashley. Seeing her come over to the old house to visit made her incredibly happy.

Ashley felt relieved, seeing how much better Emily looked.

Chase was pretty swamped. While Ashley chatted with Emily, his phone basically rang non-stop.

After lunch, Ashley had planned to stay a bit longer, then head home in the afternoon.

But a massive downpour started in the afternoon and just wouldn’t let up.

Emily hadn’t been well for long, and her energy was still low, so she needed an afternoon nap. Chase told Ashley, “If you’re tired, just go upstairs and rest for a bit.”

Before Ashley could even reply, Sam grabbed her hand and pulled her upstairs.

Ashley didn’t go to Chase’s room; she went to Sam’s room instead.

Back then, she’d cleared out most of her stuff from Chase’s house, but she’d left all her things at the old family estate.

So, Sam’s room still had a few changes of her clothes.

Once in Sam’s room, Ashley was about to grab some pajamas when Chase knocked on the door from outside.

Ashley turned around, but before she could say anything, Chase saw her rummaging through Sam’s closet. He probably figured she was looking for PJs, so he just stayed quiet.
