Chapter 388.
Ashley paused, humming an Mhm,” and asked from where she stood, “Where are Sam and them?”

Chase said, “The rain’s been really heavy today, a lot of places outside are flooded. Even though the old house’s drainage system is usually great, if the rain keeps up like this, it might not hold. The butler’s already sent people to deal with it. Sam’s never seen people piling sandbags or rain this bad, so he
ran out to check it out.”
Hearing that, Ashley glanced out the window and saw it was a total swamp out there.
Honestly, she’d never seen such severe flooding in Belfort her whole life.
She frowned, a knot of worry tightening in her chest. “Where’s Sam right now? It’s pouring out there, how can you just leave him ”
Before she could even finish her sentence, Sam burst in, soaking wet in his little rain slicker. “Mommy, you’re awake?”
Seeing Sam was okay, Ashley finally let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding.
Even though he was wearing a rain jacket, his hair and clothes were pretty much drenched. The frown she’d just relaxed instantly returned.
But Sam was clearly having a blast. He wanted to jump into Ashley’s arms but remembered he was soaked, so he slammed on the brakes just before reaching her.
Seeing Sam so happy, Ashley couldn’t bring herself to scold him. The words just died in her throat.
She was about to tell Sam to go upstairs and change when Chase put down his book, stood up, and scooped Sam into his arms. “Upstairs, change your clothes first.”
Sam
gave a
a little “oh,” then, remembering something, wiggled to get down from Chase’s arms.”I want Mom to help me change.”
Chase raised an eyebrow, glancing at Ashley. “You sure about that? Can’t you see your mom’s pissed?”
Sam froze.
He actually hadn’t noticed.
He snuck a peek at Ashley, not really seeing any anger, and couldn’t help but ask, “Mom, are you really mad?”
Ashley:”…No.”
Then will Mom help me change?”
Ashley turned around, went downstairs, sat down, and said, “Let your dad help you.”
Sam: Okay.”
Sam wasn’t even disappointed. As Chase carried him upstairs, he leaned on his back, crinkling his little nose.”Mom wasn’t mad at all, Dad, you lied to
me.”
Chase: Dad didn’t lie to you. But your mom isn’t mad at you, she’s just mad at Dad.”
Their voices weren’t too loud or too soft, just enough for Ashley to hear.
She paused, ignoring them.
Seeing the housekeeper back, Ashley asked, “Is Grandma still asleep?”
‘Not yet, but she should be up soon.”
About ten minutes later, Sam and Chase came downstairs.
