Wake Up Leave The Liar novel Chapter 5

Chapter 5

For a brief second, panic flickered across Noah’s chest. But he pushed it down fast.

No.

She loves me too much. We’re getting married. There’s no way she doesn’t care.

She’s just being stubborn-her pride talking.

Good. Let her stew a bit. Maybe this’ll teach her what lines not to cross.

He said nothing more. Just grabbed Lila’s bags, shot me one last look, and walked out.

Lila trailed after him, still sniffling.

The door slammed shut.

Silence.

I stood there in the empty living room, staring at the scraped skin on my palm, then at the lone study abroad form on the table.

That’s when the tears came-hot, unstoppable.

Not for them.

But for sixty years of devotion, shattered and buried right here.

When the crying finally stopped, I wiped my face dry. My eyes hardened, cold and clear.

I picked up my pen.

Back to the list.

This time, my future would be mine-only mine.

I stayed up late, working through the checklist, until exhaustion finally took over.

Sleep didn’t come easy. My body was drained, my mind still burning.

I was half-asleep when sudden shouts pierced the night.

“Gas leak! Everybody out!”

“Building Three-move! Now!”

The words jolted me awake.

Gas leak. Dead serious.

I threw on a jacket and ran out.

The hallway was chaos-people shouting, kids crying, panic everywhere.
