Chapter 52
Ashley showered after dinner. Steve called. ‘Ashley, I saw Ruby Mood in the neighborhood.”
Wasn’t that Tanya’s aunt? Ashley was stunned.
Steve continued, “I thought it was a coincidence, but she went into the villa opposite our house!”
Ashley’s face changed; she sat up. Steve, who was usually mild-mannered, said through gritted teeth, They… must have done this on purpose!”
Everyone knew Chase helped the Monds establish themselves in this city.
Steve knew this, but he hadn’t told Ashley. With so many options on hands, they had to buy the house opposite them!
Ashley understood. She clenched her phone, saying, “I… need to call Chase.”
“Okay.” Steve wouldn’t usually ask Ashley to involve Chase, but this was different. If Ruby moved in, they’d be constantly harassed, and Amanda wouldn’t handle the stress…
Ashley hung up and called Chase. Someone answered, “Hello.” It was Tanya.
Ashley wasn’t surprised. She said calmly, “I want to speak to Chase.”
Tanya knew it was Ashley. She said coldly, “He’s showering. I can pass on the message.”
What? This did involve her.
Steve saw Ruby, but the one who bought that house might be Mark. He was doing that to please Tanya’s grandmother.
If Ashley told Tanya about this, would she ask her family not to move in?
No.
Ashley believed that Tanya had known it all along. It would be counterproductive.
Ashley hung up.
After an hour, she still hadn’t heard from Chase. She didn’t know if it was because Tanya didn’t tell him she called or because he didn’t want to call her back. It didn’t matter. She called again; his phone was off.
Ashley clenched her phone. She calmed down and called Chase’s housekeeper, “Are they home?”
“No. What’s the matter, Mrs. Sterling?”
“Nothing.”
That night, Ashley slept poorly. The next day, after 9 am, she called Chase again. The call was answered and immediately hung up. She didn’t know if it was Tanya or Chase. She didn’t care. She left for Chase’s villa.
The housekeeper was happy.”Mrs. Sterling’s back!”
Ashley nodded,
“Will you have lunch here? I’ll have them prepare it.”
“Okay.” Ashley went upstairs, pausing before entering the master bedroom. She put down her bag and sat by the bed. The room was unchanged. Her skincare products were back; her clothes were in the closet, next to Chase’s, as if she’d never left.
Ashley didn’t call Chase again; nor did he call her. She ate dinner alone. She hadn’t considered asking Emily for help; it might make things worse. Chase respected Emily but he only did things as he pleased.
After dinner, she worked on her computer. Late at night, a car arrived. Sam saw Ashley’s car, telling Chase, Mom’s car! She’s home!”
“Hmm.” Chase glanced at the car and went inside. Sam asked the housekeeper, “Where’s Mom?”
Upstairs.”
“Great!” Sam ran upstairs. Ashley had just closed her computer and left the master bedroom when Sam hugged her. “Mommy!”
Hmm. Ashley only touched his hair. Sam didn’t realize it was a signal and kept chatting with her.
