Chapter 53
Tanya’s mother was Vivian Mood, who came from the Holden family.
The conflict between the Joneses and Holdens started long ago, from their grandmothers, who used to be friends.
Tanya’s grandmother’s marriage was difficult, and Ashley’s grandmother often helped them.
Their daughters, Vivian and Lucy, became friends too. Mark was a suitable match for Lucy and they soon fell in love, but things changed after Vivian graduated…
To help Vivian, the Holden family had a falling out with the Jones family. The Holdens had completely forgotten about how Amanda Jones had helped
them.
They were now treating the Joneses condescendingly.
Even though she didn’t give details, she believed that Chase would understand…
Chase took out a cigarette and asked, “Do you mind if I smoke?”
Ashley shook her head.
He lit the cigarette. “You want me to make them move?”
Yes.”
He took a drag, thinking. This was important to her. She could put up with everything, but not this. She clenched her fists, tears welling up.”Please. Anything you want…”
Before she finished, he said, “Okay.”
She was stunned. He agreed so easily.
Tears welled in Ashley’s eyes; her mind went blank for a moment. She quickly recovered.”Thank you, then…” Before she could ask about the conditions, Chase moved the cigarette away, wiping away her tears.”Get some rest.”
Ashley was stunned, watching him leave.
She wasn’t sure what to do.
Did he mean for her to stay? She’d moved out, but they weren’t officially divorced. It was fine to stay, but in the master bedroom? No.
She calmed herself, gathered her stuff, and went to Sam’s room. She stayed there that night.
The next day, she woke before 7 am. Sam woke up.
He clinged to her, asking her to take him to school. Ashley agreed.
After getting ready, they went downstairs for breakfast. Chase entered the dining room and sat opposite them. Sam cheerfully greeted him, “Dad, morning.”
“Morning.” He glanced at Ashley but said nothing. Then, he started eating silently. Ashley remained silent too. Chase had agreed to help, but it didn’t change anything between them.
After breakfast, Ashley took Sam to school and went to work. After the tech expo, Ashley and Tim had new ideas but hadn’t had time to discuss them due to the collaboration with Speed. Now they had time to finalize and implement them.
They were very busy. Ashley planned to order takeout and work late, but around 6:30 pm, her phone rang. It was Chase.
Ashley excused herself and answered.”Hello.”
“Grandma’s coming,” Chase said.”Come home early.” He hung up.
Ashley returned to the meeting room, telling Tim she had to leave.
“Send me the progress and problems; I’ll handle them later.” Tim nodded, “Okay, go ahead.”
Half an hour later, Ashley arrived at the villa. Chase’s car was there; he should be back. She saw him chatting with Emily and Sam. He noticed her first but didn’t speak. Emily stood up, smiling.”Ashley, you’re back!”
“Hmm.”
Emily patted her hand. “Hungry? Dinner’s almost ready.”
Yeah, kind of.”
