Sam came downstairs. Every time Ashley saw Sam, she remembered how much he liked Tanya, which made her sigh. Chase sat beside Ashley at breakfast. They didn’t talk. Sam asked Chase to take him to school. He agreed.

Emily looked at Ashley and suggested, “Chase, take Ashley to work. It’s on the way…”

Ashley interrupted, “No, Grandma. He’s busy and I need a car myself. If I go to work in his car, I may have to take a taxi back.”

Emily insisted, “It’s okay. You may for a driver if you need one.” She added, “That’s settled.”

Ashley was speechless. She looked at Chase, who said nothing.

Ashley went out with Sam and Chase. Sam was happy to be with both of them. Ashley couldn’t remember the last time she rode with Chase. As Sam got in Chase said to her, “You sit there.”

Ashley paused, feeling awkward. Still, she went to another side and got in. Sam was between them. Chase was texting. Ashley looked straight ahead. Sam snuggled into Chase, peeking at his phone.”Oh, it’s Aunt Tanya.”

Chase hummed in response. Sam looked at Ashley, then continued looking at Chase’s phone; he didn’t mention their conversation.

Sam got bored, opening the storage compartment. Ashley wasn’t interested in it, but she still saw what was inside.

There was lipstick, a small handbag, and Sam’s backpack. The lipstick and handbag were Tanya’s. She understood why Chase didn’t want her to sit beside him it was Tanya’s usual seat. He didn’t want her to take Tanya’s seat.

Thinking about this, Ashley felt a tightness in her throat and a sudden stuffiness in the car. She looked away, intending to open the window, but hesitated. She didn’t press the button, just looked out the window.

Soon, they reached Sam’s school. Ashley got out to see him off; Chase remained in the car.

Sam pouted. Dad…”

Chase said, I’m busy.”

“Oh…”

Ashley knew that when Chase and Tanya dropped Sam off, they usually got out together. She didn’t know if Chase was truly busy or didn’t want to be seen with her in public.

Ashley didn’t want to force Chase, so she said, “Thank you, I’ll take a taxi.”

Chase glanced at her.”It’s on the way.”

Ashley, however, didn’t want to get back into his car. She wanted to persuade him but thought it was pointless since he didn’t care. In the end, she said nothing.

After Sam entered the school, Ashley got back into the car.

They were in silence. Ten minutes from Eternal, Tim sent Ashley some documents.

She was so focused on work that she didn’t even notice she had arrived. Chase reminded her, “We’re here.”

His Bentley was eye-catching. Ashley knew that she wouldn’t see Chase much anymore and didn’t want to attract attention. She quickly grabbed her bag and got out. Thank you!

Chase glanced at her “Hmm” Then, he told the driver,”Let’s go.”

The car drove away. Ashley entered the building.

At noon, Tim invited a business partner to lunch. Ashley went there too.

Seeing Chase getting out of his car, and Tanya emerging from the car after him, Tim rubbed his temples. “What a small world.”

Ashley felt the same way.”Hmm.” She noticed Mark, Ruby, and others.

They were waiting for Chase and Tanya. Seeing Chase’s car, they hurried over.
