Wake Up Leave The Liar novel Chapter 81

Chapter 58

Ashley hung up, went downstairs, and told Emily that Chase already had dinner plans.

Chase didn’t come home that night.

The next morning, Emily got furious when she learned Chase hadn’t returned. “I know he’s busy, but can anyone ever really be too busy to go home?”

Ashley just smiled, offering no reply. Busy as Chase was, he had time to go home, after all, he needed rest. She remembered Tanya’s voice on the phone the previous night.

He probably had better things to do…

Eternal’s key projects for the next two years had been finalized.

However, Tim still compiled their ideas and sent them to Burke, hoping for feedback. Burke was busy and unpredictable; Ashley and Tim expected a response in a few days, maybe even two weeks.

They were surprised when Burke called that afternoon.

The ideas are decent.”

His approval gave Ashley and Tim more confidence in their projects. After all, their professor had extremely high standards; “decent” was already good enough.

Burke continued, “From what you sent, you haven’t missed any of the groundwork or recent advancements in AI. That’s not bad.” This was clearly directed at Ashley.

Her nose tingled. Before she could speak, he coldly added, “But you’re not being crisis-minded enough. In academia, you either progress or regress, and you’re regressing.”

Ashley quickly said, “I know, Professor. I’ll try my best to make up for lost time.”

“Mm. Burke’s teaching style was always concise. He stopped there.

Seeing that he seemed free, Ashley ventured, “Professor, are you free tonight? I’d like to have dinner with you.” Even Tim hadn’t had dinner with Burke in ages.

Tim quickly chimed in, “Yeah. Professor Burke, are you free?”

Burke replied flatly, “I have an appointment.”

“Ah?” Tim’s face fell, so did Ashley’s. She was about to ask when Burke would be free, but he added, “It’s with Chase Sterling.”

Both Tim and Ashley were stunned. Tim glanced at Ashley and whispered, “Well, Professor… why would Chase contact you? Can you tell us?”

He wants to introduce someone to me.” Burke hung up without further explanation.

Tim looked at Ashley. The person your husband wants to introduce to Professor Burke… could it be Tanya?”

During a meeting with the Monds, Tim had learned they also had a tech company. Tanya’s previous attempt to join his company was for their programming language, CUAP. Everyone thought Burke had led its development. Now that Tanya couldn’t join Eternal, she might be seeking out Burke to study CUAP. Or maybe she wanted to become his student.

Tim cursed, Damn it!”

Ashley had the same thought. This could be Chase’s compensation to Tanya for the villa thing. Given his feelings for Tanya, how could he bear to see her unhappy?

Tim said, “If she’s really hiding her strength, then…”

While they were Burke’s students, and Burke was cold to them, they actually had a good relationship with Burke. Burke was strict but kind-hearted, though also principled. If Tanya truly had the talent, he wouldn’t let his personal feelings about Ashley and Tanya stop himself from accepting her as a

student.

Ashley quickly composed herself.”Let’s focus on our own work.” All she could do was do her best.
