After two days of intense work, Ashley was about to go home when her uncle, Steve, called.

Half an hour later, she was at the Jones residence. Her uncle, aunt, and cousins were there. Sheldon and Henry, her two cousins, greeted her, “Hi, Ashley.”
Ashley smiled. Hi.”
Henry asked, “Where’s Sam? Didn’t you say he was back? Why isn’t he here?”
“He’s at a hot spring resort. He won’t be here.”
“Oh…” Assuming Sam was with Chase, he didn’t ask further.
Before entering the house, Ashley paused, looking at the villa across the street. She hadn’t brought the keys to the villa; if she had, she could have the remaining traces of the Holdens removed and the place renovated…
Amanda’s birthday party was being planned. Steve had called Ashley not only for her opinion but also for a task.
These invitations are for the Sterlings. Deliver them.”
Ashley paused before accepting them.”Okay.”
After dinner, Ashley chatted with her uncle and Amanda. Around 9 pm, she prepared to leave. Amanda saw her out.”If the Sterlings don’t want to come don’t push it. I don’t care if they show up or not.”
Although Steve had discreetly given Ashley the invitations, Amanda knew what was going on.
Ashley said, “I see.”
Amanda and Emily were good friends. Emily would like to attend, but she was older than Amanda. According to their customs, she was not supposed
to attend.

Amanda hadn’t had a large party for several years. For the past few years, all she had was a family dinner, and Chase hadn’t attended any of them – he said he was busy. But Ashley knew it wasn’t true. Every year, she’d still ask if he was free to come; every year, she was disappointed.
This year, she didn’t want to ask. But this was Amanda’s milestone birthday, with many business partners invited by Steve. Even if she and Chase were divorcing, she had to invite the Sterlings. Whether they came was up to them.
Ashley had initially planned to return to her apartment, but she changed her mind, driving to Chase’s villa instead. She discovered that Chase and Sam weren’t home; Emily went back to her own house.
Ashley put down her bag and went to the bathroom. Half an hour later, she heard a car pull up downstairs. Chase and the others were back. Without emotion, she sat down to dry her hair.
Sam ran upstairs, throwing himself into Ashley’s arms.”Mom, we’re back!” He smelled strongly of Tanya’s perfume.
Ashley calmly said “Mm,” turned off the hairdryer, and touched his face.”Did you shower?”
Sam shook his head. Not yet.”
“It’s past 10. Go shower; you have school tomorrow.”
As Ashley finished, Chase entered the bedroom. Their eyes met. Ashley looked away coldly. Sam pulled her hand. “Mom, help me shower.”
Ashley said, “Okay, let me dry my hair first.”
“Okay!” He happily went to get his pajamas.
Chase sat down on the other side.”When did you get back?”
