From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 103

Autumn felt like she’d been struck by lightning.

What did Eleanor mean, she’d already lost the baby? What about her grandson?

“You’re heartless, Eleanor. Absolutely heartless. You killed my grandson! You’ll pay for this!”

Autumn lunged at Eleanor, but Eleanor grabbed her wrist and pushed her aside without hesitation.

“You’re the ones who killed my baby,” Eleanor shot back, her voice icy cold. “It was your family’s indifference. Peter’s complete lack of responsibility. Someone like him doesn’t deserve another child. The blood in your family is cold. I tried, I really did, but I could never warm any of your hearts. Not yours, not your son’s, not even your precious granddaughter’s.”

She took a shaky breath, her eyes never leaving Autumn’s face.

“So I’m done. Since you want a grandson so badly, I’ll step aside for Jessie. Let her marry Peter as soon as possible. Maybe then she can give him that child you’re so desperate for.”

Eleanor let out a humorless laugh, all bitterness and pain. “That way, you’ll finally get what you’ve always wanted. Right now, you should go home and talk Peter into divorcing me. The longer this drags on, the less chance they’ll have to start that perfect family you dream about.”

Every word landed like a blow, and Autumn felt the sting deep in her heart. Jessie had been married to Grady for years and still had no children. Who knew if she ever would? But the loss of the grandson she’d never even met was the sharpest pain of all.

“Eleanor, I won’t let you get away with this. You’re not getting a single cent of my son’s money.”

Autumn slammed the door behind her, leaving Juliana and Jared standing there, still in shock.

“Eleanor, tell me it’s not true,” Juliana begged, her voice barely more than a whisper. “You’re lying, right? The baby… you didn’t really…”

Eleanor looked at her mother, eyes cold and tired. “Mom, I waited at the hospital for Peter to come to my appointment. He never showed. He wouldn’t answer his phone. I waited at the entrance, but instead of seeing him, I got hit by a utility cart. I miscarried. That’s the truth.”

“Eleanor…” The boy’s voice was shaky, his eyes shining with tears. “Does it still hurt?”

He didn’t really understand what pregnancy was like, or how much a miscarriage hurt. He just knew that when he was sick, Eleanor was always there for him. When she was hurting, though, she was all alone.

What must have been going through her mind back then?

Eleanor didn’t want to take out her pain on Jared, but she couldn’t stand to look at her mother any longer. “It stopped hurting a long time ago,” she said, her voice gentle.

“The real pain is living in a fantasy you can’t wake up from.”

Jared watched as Eleanor closed the door and walked away, his heart aching for her.
