From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 105

Autumn got the call and rushed straight to the hospital.

“Peter, you just about gave me a heart attack.”

Peter’s head was wrapped in thick gauze, his face pale and drawn. Ever since the accident, he’d barely moved, still stuck replaying whatever Leon had told him.

“If you need to travel for work, just have the driver take you. Look at you now. Your brother is already gone. If something happened to you too, how would I even go on?” His mom’s voice broke as she started to cry.

Her tears only made Peter more restless. He felt a wave of irritation but couldn’t blame her.

“Mom, my head really hurts.”

She straightened, worried. “Should I get the doctor?”

Peter shook his head. “No, just stay here for a bit. Then you should go home. I’m fine. The doctor said I just need to rest. Don’t tell Olga when you get back. And please don’t say anything to Jessie either.”

He hardly ever called her Jessie. Right now, he just wanted everyone to leave him alone.

Autumn stood by the door, guilt twisting in her stomach. She knew she was at least half the reason for his accident. If she hadn’t told him about the miscarriage, or if she had just waited for a better time, maybe he wouldn’t have lost control. Thankfully, it was only some scrapes and a mild concussion. If it had been worse, she would never have forgiven herself. In her heart, she made another silent note against Eleanor.

“Peter, how about letting Jessie look after you? She’d do a much better job than any nurse.”

He cut her off right away. “No. Please, just don’t tell anyone. I want some quiet. After two days under observation, I still need to get to Fairmont.”

Autumn saw there was no changing his mind, so she left without another word.

After leaving the hospital, Eleanor couldn’t bring herself to go home and cook for Max.

[Eleanor: Mr. Clarkson, is it alright if I take tonight off? Something came up, so I can’t make dinner.]

Eleanor thought for a second. “Let’s go to a bar. I just want a drink.”

Yolanda sounded a little worried. “You sure? You just got better. Is it okay for you to drink?”

“I’ll just have a little. You know I can’t drink much anyway. Just a tiny bit.”

“Alright, if you say so.”

They met at Twilight Lounge, a quiet bar with soft lighting and an easygoing vibe. Eleanor didn’t like crowded places. Honestly, this was her first time even stepping into a bar.

Before she got married, she’d worked nonstop, saving every cent for Jared’s medical bills. After marriage, she was always busy taking care of everyone else. There was never any time left for herself. Entertainment wasn’t even on her radar—Yolanda was her only real friend.
