From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 116

Juliana let out a sharp sigh. “Don’t bother with Jared. You’re never any help when it counts.”

“You wanted a divorce, right? I took care of it for you. Have a look at this agreement. I already signed it, whether you agree or not.”

Eleanor snatched the papers and skimmed through them. The terms were brutal—she’d lose custody of her daughter, pay a hundred thousand a month in child support, and walk away with nothing at all.

She stared at her mom, her eyes wide in disbelief. “Mom, do you really think this agreement does anything for me?”

Juliana’s answer came without hesitation. “Of course it does. They promised to donate marrow to Jared. It’s not like you were planning to give me money anyway. You’ve had your time as the rich wife, Eleanor. Don’t try to have it all.”

Eleanor felt her blood boiling. She’d always tried to be understanding about her mother’s favoritism. She knew Jared was sick, and the family never had much, so everything went to his treatment. But after she got married and Jared’s life got better, her mother’s bias just kept growing. Lately, it felt like her mom cared more about everyone else than her own daughter.

She’d believe anything Jessie said, no matter how far-fetched. She’d sign some totally unfair contract from Autumn without even asking Eleanor first, not even considering how she might feel. Was this really her mother? Wasn’t she also the daughter her mom carried for nine months?

Jared noticed Eleanor’s expression and got out of bed to steady her. “Eleanor, Ms. Clove came by earlier to talk to Mom. I had no idea they’d signed anything. Don’t worry, this agreement won’t stand.”

Eleanor let out a cold laugh. “Of course it won’t.”

Eleanor stood up fast. “I’ll find a way to get Jared the transplant. But you and I—we need to keep our distance from now on. You don’t get to sign anything for me. I’m not the daughter who’ll do anything and everything just to please you anymore.”

She walked out, and Jared tried to follow her, but Juliana slumped down onto the hospital bed, looking lost.

Holding her head, Juliana muttered, “She’s so ungrateful.”

Jared shook his head. “No, Mom. There’s nobody in the world more devoted than Eleanor.”
