From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 147

Juliana never thought Eleanor would actually take things all the way to court.

She stared at Jared, her face serious. “So that afternoon when you said you were going to the library, you were really with Eleanor at her hearing, weren’t you?”

“Did you go into the courtroom?”

Jared shook his head, unable to come up with anything else. “No, Mom, I didn’t.”

Juliana let out a heavy sigh. “Jared, I’m really disappointed in you. I’ve always taken your side, always tried to do what’s best for you, and you go behind my back to help Eleanor hide things from me. Do you know how much that hurts?”

Jared tried to tune out her guilt trips. “Mom, Eleanor’s getting divorced. Isn’t this the time when you’re supposed to be there for her?”

“I just want Eleanor to know that we’re a family. She shouldn’t have to go through everything on her own. Honestly, you should have been the one to reach out to her first.”

Juliana pressed her lips together and didn’t answer. Instead, she picked up her phone and called Eleanor. “Come over after work. I have something important to ask you.”

Jared looked at his mom, frustrated. “Mom, Eleanor’s brave. She’s always treated me well, and she’s always been respectful to you. You can’t keep treating her like this.”

Juliana just turned and walked into the kitchen, done with the conversation. She didn’t want to waste her energy arguing. She figured she might as well start dinner now, before she lost her appetite completely.

Eleanor had no idea what was going on. She thought maybe something had happened to Jared, so she hurried home straight after work. The moment she stepped inside, she saw Jared shake his head at her, warning her. Eleanor raised her eyebrows, already preparing herself for whatever mood her mother-in-law was in.

Juliana brought the food to the table and served Jared his rice. Eleanor was about to head into the kitchen to get her own, but Juliana stopped her.

“Mom?” Eleanor asked, confused.

“What, now that I’m home, I’m not even allowed to eat?” The whole thing was so ridiculous that she almost laughed out loud.

Juliana huffed. “You can eat after you explain yourself.”

“Jared, come here!” Juliana shouted.

Eleanor’s voice was cold. “Jared, I’m fine. Move over, or you’ll just get hurt too.”

But Jared wouldn’t budge. He stood his ground, protecting Eleanor.

“Mom, you need to apologize to Eleanor. Right now.”

Juliana let out a harsh laugh. “Apologize? Me? The one who should be apologizing is you—to Jessie!”

She jabbed her finger at Eleanor. “Listen to me. If you don’t go and apologize to Ms. Goff, I’ll cut you off for good.”

“From now on, don’t call me your mother. I’m done.”
