From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 148

Eleanor drew in a long, shaky breath. “Mom, are you really sure about this?”

“Jessie isn’t just some homewrecker. She stole fifty million from the joint account Peter and I built together. You won’t take my side, but you’re going to help her?”

Juliana didn’t even hesitate. “Yes. Of course I’ll help Ms. Goff.”

“You really think she’s better than me?”

All the warmth drained from Eleanor’s heart. Her mother had hurt her before, but this was on another level. She had tried so hard to make things better for her mom and Jared, hoping for even a sliver of love in return, but it was like Juliana never once saw her as a daughter.

“Sometimes I honestly think about getting a DNA test. I have to ask myself, am I really your daughter? How can you treat a stranger so much better than your own child?”

Juliana’s face changed. “What are you talking about? Don’t say things like that.”

“Don’t try to dodge the issue. If you won’t apologize, then I’m done. I won’t recognize you as my mother, ever again.”

Juliana thought she had the upper hand, but Eleanor’s cold laugh caught her off guard.

“You want to cut ties? Fine,” Eleanor said, her lips twisting in a bitter smile. “From now on, I won’t call you mom.”

“I have a brother, but I don’t have a mother anymore.”

Eleanor turned and walked out the door.

Jared panicked and tried to go after her, but their mother grabbed his arm.

“Let her go. There’s no point in chasing her.”

Underneath her calm face, Juliana was fuming. Her once obedient daughter had started talking back, ruining the image of respect she clung to as a parent. She needed to put Eleanor in her place.

“Just wait, Jared. In a few days, Eleanor will come crawling back.”

“That ungrateful brat.”

Back at home, Olga had been alone for days and couldn’t take it anymore. Her dad had called a few times, each time promising he’d be home tomorrow. She was scared he might never come back, just like Uncle Grady.

She picked up the phone and called her Mommie Jessie.

“Olga?” Jessie sounded surprised.

“Mommie Jessie, Daddy and Grandma haven’t been home in days. Are you with them?”

Jessie’s heart skipped a beat. “How many days have they been gone?”

Olga counted on her fingers. “Three. Mommie Jessie, they’ve been gone for three days. I’m scared. Can you come see me?”

Jessie did the math. That meant Autumn and Peter hadn’t been home since the day of the court hearing. She remembered Adam saying Peter told him he was busy. Was something wrong?

She tried to comfort Olga, then quickly called Peter’s assistant. Only then did she find out Autumn was in the hospital.
