From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 176

She had seen her fair share of clueless people, but this was next level. Peter Clarkson probably never thought Eleanor would show up at the office again.

Peter shot her a sharp look, his eyes icy. “Don’t think you can use that as evidence.”

“Appealing is my right. I’m definitely not satisfied with the verdict, and it’s way too soon for you to bring up splitting assets.”

Eleanor could tell what he was thinking. He clearly had no plans to just end this ugly, drawn-out lawsuit.

So she stood up, dusted off her hands, and smiled. “Alright, whatever you say. I’m not in a rush. If anyone should be worried, it’s you.”

She gave him a little grin. “Let’s see who actually wins in the end. Maybe I’ll see you in court for round two.”

And with that, Eleanor walked out.

Peter was so furious that he slammed the ashtray off his desk, sending it crashing to the floor. Right away, he called his lawyer and demanded a meeting.

At the club, the lawyer just looked at him, totally at a loss. Jessie Goff was there too. She already knew about Eleanor’s surprise visit.

“Peter, calm down. Don’t let her get under your skin,” Jessie said, trying to soothe him.

The lawyer jumped in, “Mr. Clarkson, she’s not wrong about the appeal. To be honest, the second trial probably won’t go our way either. Appeals judges usually stick to the evidence from the first trial. Unless we come up with something new…”

He didn’t finish his sentence, but Peter got the point.

“So what am I supposed to do? Just hand over sixty percent of my shares to her?”

The lawyer gave a small, awkward smile. “Well, Mr. Clarkson, maybe you could take a softer approach. You don’t have to follow the judgment to the letter. Your daughter is staying with you, after all. Maybe you can use that?”

But that idea went nowhere. Olga couldn’t stand Eleanor, and Eleanor hadn’t even visited her daughter in ages. There was nothing there to work with.

Let’s talk about the settlement again tomorrow.

Eleanor agreed, at least on the surface. But when the time came, she texted him back.

Sorry, something came up. Rain check?

Who didn’t know how to flake on someone? After his attitude yesterday, Eleanor was happy to leave him hanging a few more times before she even considered meeting.

They’d all misjudged her. Eleanor wasn’t the one pressed for time. If anyone should be anxious, it was Peter.

He sat alone in the café, his face going from red to pale. When did Eleanor get so cold, so untouchable? She even stood him up over something like this.

And she kept her word. Eleanor blew him off three times before she finally agreed to meet.
