From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 189

Eleanor put on her most polite smile. “Hello, Professor.”

Nate grinned. “Please, don’t call me that. If Tim hears you, he’ll never let me live it down.”

“Eleanor, you really are impressive for your age. Tim used to mention you all the time, always going on about his star student. It’s been years since we last met. I had no idea you ended up at a biotech company.”

Eleanor gave a modest laugh. “I’m not that impressive. I’m just a junior researcher at Clarkson Corporation.”

Nate waved off her humility. “Don’t sell yourself short. Tim isn’t one to hand out compliments. If he thinks you’re talented, you definitely are.”

Eleanor’s curiosity got the best of her. “Nate, are you in research too?”

He shook his head. “No, I’m on the clinical side. Tim asked me to come by today to see a patient.”

A house call? Eleanor blinked, surprised. “Are you a cardiologist?”

Nate’s smile turned mischievous. “Let’s just say it’s probably better if you don’t know what I specialize in.”

Eleanor decided not to push it.

A few minutes later, Marleigh arrived at Tim’s front door with Max beside her.

She leaned in, whispering quickly, “Remember, just act natural. Don’t let her see through you, okay? Otherwise, I can’t help you.”

Max couldn’t help but laugh. “Got it, Mom.”

Five minutes later, Eleanor was startled to see Max walk into the living room. She hesitated, caught off guard. “Mrs. Clarkson? Mr. Clarkson? You’re here too?”

The awkwardness hit her all at once, especially since Mrs. Clarkson had once asked her to keep an eye on Max’s love life.

Nate glanced over and spotted his patient for the day. He hadn’t expected it to be Max. No wonder Tim had insisted he sign a confidentiality agreement before coming over.

Nate managed a polite smile. “Mr. Clarkson, I’ve heard a lot about you.”

“Don’t worry, dear. I’m not here to break you two up. I really like you, honestly. If you became my daughter-in-law, I’d be over the moon.”

She meant it, and then her tone softened as she shifted gears, especially now that she knew about Max’s problem.

“Max is wonderful, but he does have a minor flaw. I know most women might find it hard to accept. But I hope you’ll think about it, dear. I’ve hired the best specialists for him. We’re going to get him the help he needs.”

She reached for Eleanor’s hand. “Sweetheart, would you be able to accept this one little imperfection of his?”

Eleanor sat there, suddenly understanding. So Dr. Thompson was a men’s health specialist. And Max was here, not by chance, but for a private consultation at Tim’s house.

It hit her then, even someone like Max, with all his money and status, still had his own struggles.

...

Upstairs in the study, Professor Nate smiled gently. “Mr. Clarkson, why don’t you go ahead and take off your pants so I can have a look?”
