From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 227

“Jared?” Sydney echoed, her voice tight.

“Yeah, him. He’s the reason I got expelled.”

Sydney’s brow knitted with worry. “Alright, I get it now. I’ll talk to your dad when he gets home tonight. You two thought you could keep this from me, but look at where we are. You can’t hide it anymore, can you?”

Grant muttered something under his breath. “Not like you can actually do anything about it.”

“What was that?”

“Nothing, Mom. I’ll be home soon. Talk later.”

After the Ovard family went bankrupt three years ago, Sydney decided to stay home and take care of Grant until he went off to college. She’d heard what Grant said, every word, and it hurt more than she’d expected. She never thought her own son would feel that way about her.

Trying to push aside the sting, she started looking into Jared. Who was this kid, and why did he have the power to get her son expelled?

Then she noticed his last name. Rolland. That rang a bell.

. . .

Eleanor’s phone buzzed. It was a message from Jared.

[Jared: Eleanor, he got expelled!]

[Eleanor: I know. Just keep your head down at school for now. If anyone bothers you, tell me right away, okay?]

[Jared: Okay. ^▽^]

Eleanor looked at the emoji and couldn’t help but smile. He was still just a kid. Three years of high school would fly by, and if Jared kept up his pace, maybe he’d finish in two. There was no point in making enemies now. College would be his real fresh start.

As she sat there, lost and uncertain, her phone rang. It was Jessie, inviting her out for a spa day.

“Jessie, I need to tell you something. But you have to promise you’ll keep it just between us.”

Jessie sounded surprised. “Sydney, of course I’ll keep your secret. You know you can trust me.”

Jessie had a feeling this was serious, but she still wasn’t ready for what Sydney said next.

“Jessie, Wesley’s cheating on me. He got Grant expelled just to help his mistress’s brother, and he doesn’t even care. Wesley’s lost his mind!”

Jessie frowned, clearly confused. “That doesn’t sound right, Sydney. Are you sure there isn’t some mistake? Do you even know who the other woman is?”

“I do!” Sydney’s eyes were burning with anger. “Her name is Eleanor!”
