From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 275

As soon as Peter slipped back into his room, Eleanor finally let herself look up.

“I told you someone would see us!” Her eyes were bright, a little watery, and full of accusation.

Max grinned, his eyes dark and mischievous. He licked his lips, slow and deliberate. “Okay, okay, my fault. Let’s save this for when we get home.”

But before Eleanor could even protest, he scooped her up in his arms and strode toward the exit like it was the most natural thing in the world.

She gasped, clutching his neck to keep from falling. “Max, put me down!”

He only laughed, eyes sparkling with mischief. “No way. Mrs. Clarkson was very well-behaved tonight. You definitely deserve a reward.”

He set her gently in the back seat, then climbed in beside her. With a quick nod to the driver, he raised the privacy partition, sealing them off from the world.

The dim light inside the car softened Max’s features, making him look less intimidating than usual. He pressed his face into the curve of her neck, just breathing her in at first, not rushing.

His fingers slid through her chestnut hair, cool against her skin. The gentle touch sent a shiver racing down her spine, making her toes curl and her heart flutter.

“Max…” Her voice was barely more than a whisper. There was a new, unsure softness in her eyes, like she was losing herself in the feeling.

Max seemed to sense it. He pulled back just enough to tip her chin up and kiss her, deep and hungry.

He was still thinking about how she had ignored Peter Clarkson earlier, and the thought of it made him want to tell everyone the truth right then. But as long as Eleanor wasn’t ready, he’d wait as long as she needed.

For a second, Eleanor felt reckless, almost like she wanted to throw caution to the wind. But with the wedding just two days away, what difference did it make? One more day wouldn’t hurt.

Something about tonight made her a little bolder than usual. She leaned into him, lips parting, but Max took control, deepening the kiss and refusing to let her pull away.

Eleanor’s breath grew quick and shallow, her eyes turning glassy with emotion. She tried to push him back, but he only slowed his movements, letting his hands wander from her neck to her back, finally resting at her waist.
