From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 306

“You wanted to get rid of Max because you were afraid he’d ruin everything. But you forgot something important. I stopped trusting you a long time ago.”

Eleanor looked at the handkerchief Juliana had just used. “Curious why your little trick didn’t work on me?”

Juliana’s expression barely flickered. “That one was already swapped.”

Eleanor’s voice was calm. “And about those oil drums and explosives you stashed in the warehouse... Why don’t you go ahead and press the button? Who knows, you might be surprised.”

Juliana knew this was the end of the line. Her legs gave out, and she dropped to her knees, tears streaming down her face. “Eleanor, please… Can you forgive me this one last time? I just… I just wanted the money.”

Eleanor crouched down so they were eye to eye. “Do I look like an idiot to you?”

She paused, studying Juliana’s face. “Tell me who your other accomplice is. Maybe then I’ll think about letting you go.”

Juliana just shook her head, lips pressed together, her face drained of color. She said nothing, not even when the police showed up and led her away.

Max slipped an arm around Eleanor’s shoulders. “Hey, it’s alright. The people at the house said Jared’s already home. Someone just drugged him, drove him around for a while, and dropped him back off. He’s safe.”

Eleanor nodded, her voice soft. “Thank you, Max.”

Since yesterday, watching Juliana try to trap her, seeing how far she’d fallen, Eleanor’s heart had gone cold. Last night, she’d dreamed of her adoptive dad, of Jared, and of the Juliana who used to smile at her. But greed had blinded Juliana in the end.

That dream was probably the last time Eleanor would ever cry for her.

Her phone rang. Jared’s name lit up the screen.

“Eleanor, are you okay?”

“I’m… fine.”

There was a long silence. Then Jared let out a shaky breath. “Eleanor, just let them take Mom to jail.”
