Yolanda got the call and, with a sigh, made her way over to the club. The second she walked in, she spotted Linden slumped on the sofa, his face bright red from all the drinking.

She called out to Max, then dragged her feet over to Linden. The moment she got close, he leaned most of his weight into her, burying his face in her neck and breathing in her scent.

“Honey… you’re here…” he mumbled, voice thick with alcohol.

Yolanda froze up. She really didn’t like him getting this close, but his arm slid around her waist, his hand hot against the thin fabric of her shirt. She could feel her ears turning red.

Seriously, how can someone be this handsy even when they’re drunk?

To make things worse, Max was just sitting there, watching with way too much interest, which made her even more embarrassed.

Struggling to hold Linden up, she whispered, “Why do you even drink if you can’t handle it?”

Max just shook his head to himself. He could not watch this any longer.

He stood up, but then remembered—Yolanda was his wife’s best friend.

“Hey, do you have a minute? Let’s go talk outside.”

The second she heard Eleanor’s name, Yolanda shrugged Linden off and let him flop onto the sofa, then followed Max out the door without a glance back.

Behind her, there was a dull thud as Linden’s head hit the arm of the sofa. He grunted, pained, and cursed himself. He never should have asked Max to help. What was he thinking?

Out in the hallway, Yolanda looked at Max. “So, what did you want to talk about?”

“I’ll get straight to the point. You know Eleanor’s mom has always treated her badly. I started to get suspicious, so I had a DNA test done. Eleanor isn’t Juliana’s biological daughter.”
