From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 40

Eleanor’s eyes widened. “Hold on. ‘Uncle’?”

She needed a second to wrap her head around this.

“Yeah. It all goes back to the last generation. George’s dad had an affair and a kid outside the family. George’s mom wouldn’t let that kid into the house and wouldn’t let her husband give them anything, either.”

“After she died, George started helping the kid a little, but only in secret and not for long. So, technically, Peter is Max’s nephew, kind of.”

Suddenly, everything started to make sense for Eleanor.

No wonder Peter always looked jealous whenever Clarkson Corporation came up. And now she understood why his own company was called Horizon Collective. They couldn’t use the Clarkson name.

The main family would never allow it.

And Max… was he helping her just because she was Peter’s wife?

Was this just a way to give the illegitimate side of the family some trouble? Was that why he kept making things difficult for them?

“Eleanor? Are you even listening?”

Eleanor snapped out of it. “I’m here. Yolanda, I’m starting at Clarkson Corporation tomorrow.”

Yolanda burst out laughing. “That’s my girl. I wish I could see Peter’s face when he finds out you switched to his uncle’s company.”

Not long after Peter made the transfer, he saw Eleanor’s statement go public.

Jessie was sitting next to his mom, crying her heart out. “Mom, Eleanor went way too far this time. She doesn’t have to like me, but how could she joke about something like this?”

“She made up a fake recording and said it was me. If Peter hadn’t stepped in, I’d never be able to clear my name.”

Autumn was shaking with anger. “This is ridiculous. Peter, your brother’s memorial is coming up soon. What is she even thinking, doing something like this?”

No. She couldn’t be the one to say it. Peter had to find out on his own.

She dabbed her tears and spoke softly. “Mom, Peter’s right. Eleanor is pregnant with their second child.”

Autumn made a face, then asked, “So we’re just letting this go?”

But what else could they do?

Peter’s tone was final. “She’s already cleared things up in her statement. Let’s just leave it at that.”

Jessie’s eyes shimmered coldly. Leave it at that?

Not a chance.
