From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 66

Tim lingered by the door for what felt like forever, trying to collect himself. When he finally spoke, his face was all business. “Why are you here?”

“I told you back then. Once you left, you weren’t supposed to come back.”

Daniel couldn’t help but wince. There it was again—Tim acting all tough, but everyone knew he was soft inside.

“Eleanor’s not here for you. This is my office. She has every right to be here,” Daniel said.

Tim let out a sharp sound of annoyance. “So you called me over just because of her?”

“If that’s the case, you’re wasting my time. I’m out.”

Eleanor saw that Tim hadn’t changed a bit, still quick-tempered as ever. She hurried over and grabbed his sleeve. “Tim, could you please just come inside and sit for a while?”

Tim didn’t look back. His tone was as cold as ever. “Sit for what? You want to tell me all about your perfect married life?”

“You want me to listen to how you threw away everything I taught you, all because you got swept up by that Clarkson guy?”

A wave of bitterness flickered in Eleanor’s eyes. He wasn’t wrong. She really had been that foolish. She didn’t expect Tim to forgive her now.

Her fingers slipped from his sleeve, cool and trembling.

She bowed deeply, almost to the floor. “I’m sorry, Tim. I really let you down.”

Tim felt a twist in his chest as soon as he finished talking. He knew he should just turn and leave, but it was like his feet were glued to the spot.

Daniel let out a heavy sigh. Of course, it was up to him to play peacemaker.

“Anyway, your student finally woke up. Eleanor’s getting a divorce. Have to admit, you always knew how to judge people.”

Tim, who had been sulking, suddenly snapped to attention at the word “divorce.” His temper got the better of him. “What happened? Was it that Peter guy who asked for it?”

For the first time, Tim actually looked at her, and Eleanor shook her head. “No, I’m the one who asked for it. You were right, Tim. He really isn’t worth it.”

She told them the whole story, her voice calm but every word heavy. When she mentioned being all alone at the hospital through a miscarriage, Tim’s hands clenched in anger.

“That jerk. He actually thinks he’s something special? I could find ten guys better than him with my eyes closed. How dare he treat my student like that.”

Daniel was just as riled up. “Stop pacing, you’re making me dizzy. Don’t worry, Eleanor, I’ll take care of it for you. His people want to meet me about a partnership the day after tomorrow. Like that’s ever going to happen.”
